I want to put purple semi permanent hair color in my hair?

i have awesome hair that's a dark brown tone about 2 shades lighter than a dark caramel and i want to put in purple steaks behind my ears just for fun but i refuse to put bleach in my hair i keep seeing this for dark hair only dye and was wondering if it would lighten my hair enough to dye it without alot of damage and bleach? does it really work?
