Canadian Health Insurance for non Permanent resident?

I am a 30 year old female (recently married) and I will be looking for health insurance in Canada while I am there. My husband is also a non-canadian who is searching for employment on a one year visa and we both are looking to obtain permanent residency once he finds employment. I have no idea as to the cost of a decent policy that would cover emergency care as well, and was hopingf someone might be able to help. I have never smoked and am in VG general health.
