How do I make a pdf small enough to email?

I created a file in Adobe Elements at 300 dpi which I want to save as a PDF to email to my clients so they can take it to a local printer and print it for their use. The file is HUGE. How can i make it smaller without losing its ability to be printed large (16x20) ?
