Why is everything on my laptop enlarged?

I just rebooted my laptop because it crashed I used the start up disk and everything was enlarged and I mean EVERYTHING!! How can I get my icons back to normal ? My dpi is at 96 but it's still annoyingly large. Plz help me =(
