I coloured my hair yesterday with 'live' colour (semi-permanent), can i just dye it permanently after a wash?

So I wanted to see what I'd look like with dark red hair so i got a pack of live colour (mahogany), schwarzkopf i think, and it looked great, now I want to dye it permanently. If i give it a really vigorous wash today, can I buy a pack and dye it permanently tonight? My hair feels great, very shiny and healthy. I have long medium brown hair, and this is the first time in about a year I've coloured it ( I dyed it darker). I'm just wondering what will happen if some of the temporary dye is still there and i put permanent dye on top? Thankyou :)
