When God feels like smiting us, why does he have to use natural disasters? Can't he use unnatural disasters?

In my (humble) opinion, I think that IF there is an omnipotent, benevolent maker he has no need for disasters. It's only people who want to put fear into our lives who use such ideas to support themselves! An omnip/benev God, if he exists, only wants us to put his love in our lives, disaster and fear to not proceed from love.
