Question about hearing and ears?

While acute periods of exposure to high-debicel sounds remain advised to be avoided, sensorineural hearing loss occurs as a consequence of chronic subjection to loud noise over a period of years. Hence, one night spent at a rave club won't necessarily inflict damage upon your auditory structures, but should one listen to blaring music from an iPod for more than an hour daily, that individual should expect to incur deficits more quickly than those who implement safer listening practices. As such, if you notice no subjective alteration in hearing perception and do not suffer from any degree of tinnitus (ringing or whooshing in the ears in the absence of any local sound), I greatly doubt you have acquired any hearing loss after a single night's occupation spent next to a subwoofer. That being said, I recommend you don earplugs during your next excursion to the club; it is the cumulative effect of loud sound that damages the ear in the long term, and as such, intervening before such deficits are collected may further preserve your hearing.
