If I lower the dpi of a movie poster in photoshop what happens?

My images for a movie poster are small so I lowered the dpi from the default 300 to 50 for my 18 in by 24 in poster. When printing will the images have bad quality if I lower the dpi to 50. I did not resize the photos so please answer:)
