How do i know if my camera is taking high resolution pictures? I have a Canon Rebel XS DSLR?

the camera is has a 10.10 megapixel image sensor...but the pics that i take are only recording at 72 dpi, instead of 300dpi which is what ive read qualifies a pic as high res.
